At the end of last week, I posted my poster for participation sign up in 15 local shops on main street. Then on Tuesday of this week I posted that same poster and a bit of a description on the Platteville (p-Vagas) page on Facebook.
From the posters around I have not had anyone sign up. However, from the post on Facebook I have gotten 9 people signed up. I hope to continue this momentum to the end of the study period (July 20th). Otherwise, I plan to find other Platteville community member Facebook pages to post this flier in.
The workshop for this week was on research ethics. We started by creating a chart of different ways ethics applies to our personal research. The list included the following:
ecological ethics/ conservation of land
ethics regarding humans and animals
Openness
Sharing results and not gatekeeping
Intellectual property
Writing integrity (not plagiarizing)
Not falsifying results
confidentiality in appropriate place (not sharing participant's personal info)
This workshop consisted primarily of discussion regarding cases that dealt with questionably ethical situations. We discussed ways the situation could have been dealt with more appropriately and how to avoid being in a place of questionable ethics.
