This summer (2023) I am a part of the Summer Undergraduate Scholars Program (SUSP) at UW-Platteville. This is a 9-week program that is used to encourage scholarly engagement in research projects. It is condensed time where we can focus on a research project and get paid to do so. Each week there is a weekly workshop that considers different aspects of research.
Date | Topic |
June 7 | Independent projects/ Project management |
June 14 | Integrity / Ethics |
June 21 | Share Research and Creative Spaces |
June 28 | Collaborative projects- challenges and advantages |
July 5 | Graduate school and/or career success |
July 12 | Project updates, challenges, successes- and informal discussion |
July 19 | Sharing research and creative output with diverse audiences |
July 26 | Writing, Creating, Publication |
By the end of this program, we are to hopeful come out with a better understanding of how research works, along with more confidence in continuing this kind of work past undergraduate school.
Along with the expectations from the program, Dr. Kameko Halfmann (my mentor) has instructed me to create two "artifacts". These are non-traditional pieces of work (not a paper) that explain my research.
Some examples she gave me to work with are:
Infographic
Letter to a policy maker
Podcast episode
Social media posts (research in a Tweet, Instagram post, and/or TikTok video series)
Video
Cartoon
